چکیده

Direct membrane filtration (DMF) is a promising alternative secondary wastewater treatment process in Iceland, where biological not effective due to low strength nature and temperature. This study aims investigate fouling mechanisms mitigation approaches during DMF of municipal using crossflow system integrated with an optical coherence tomography (OCT) imaging system. During wastewater, it was observed that intermediate pore blocking dominant the early stage fouling, followed by cake filtration. Multi-filtration cycles were performed under different conditions, results revealed (1) elevating flushing water temperature from 25 50 °C greatly reduced constant accompanied decreased physically-irreversible fouling; (2) increasing both velocities did influence constant, but caused lower reducing physically-reversible irreversible (3) extending filtration-flushing duration interval appeared slightly constant; (4) cycles, shift reversible noticed associated compression tightly attached layer readily removed periodical flushing. A combination physical short term chemical-enhanced cleaning employed sustainable long-term operation achieved. Furthermore, foulants autopsy indicated biofouling combined organic/inorganic influenced development.

Forward osmosis membrane fouling and cleaning for wastewater reuse

Membrane fouling properties and different physical cleaning methods for forward osmosis (FO) and reverse osmosis (RO) laboratory-scale filtration systems were investigated. The membrane fouling, with respect to flux reduction, was lower in FO than in RO when testing an activated sludge effluent. Crossflow velocity, air-scouring, osmotic backwashing and effect of a spacer were compared to determ...

Mark Wilf Ph. D. and Steven Alt APPLICATION OF LOW FOULING RO MEMBRANE ELEMENTS FOR RECLAMATION OF MUNICIPAL WASTEWATER. Abstract Membrane fouling encountered in reclamation of municipal wastewater

Membrane fouling encountered in reclamation of municipal wastewater represents serious design and operational concern. This is because the municipal effluent, after secondary treatment, contains high concentrations of suspended particles, colloids and high level of biological activity. Application of membrane technology for treatment of municipal wastewater requires very extensive pretreatment ...

Fouling and cleaning of reverse osmosis membrane applied to membrane bioreactor effluent treating textile wastewater

Membrane bioreactor (MBR) and reverse osmosis (RO) membrane system was applied to the treatment and reclamation of textile wastewater in Thailand. An experiment was carried out to determine the fouling behavior and effect of anti-scalant and biocide addition to flux decline and its recovery through chemical cleaning. The RO unit was operated for one month after which the fouled membranes were c...

Seasonal variation in membrane fouling in membrane bioreactors (MBRs) treating municipal wastewater.

We investigated seasonal variation in membrane fouling in membrane bioreactors (MBRs) treating municipal wastewater regarding the difference between physically reversible and irreversible fouling. Two separate MBRs with different solid retention times (SRTs) operated in parallel for about 200 days including high- and low-temperature periods to evaluate the effect of operating conditions on seas...
